Madam X was putting Google Glass through its paces as we stood on the busy corner and tried to act natural.

“One must address this device with authority”, she intones. “OK, Google; How many steps from Bay and Bloor to Tiffany’s?” Of course, she has this fact memorized and knows that it varies according to how high her heels are and the number of shops visited on the way but she was training Glass for obedience.

Everyone around took two steps away and averted their eyes, so Canadian. Naturally, I stepped back too.

Later, testing its language skills, we asked Google Glass for a martini and vapourtini in every language we could think of. This was not wise. Soon it was glasses of Google and tokes of Tini.

Madam X rolled her eyes and sighed, tossing this elegant piece of jewellery onto the ottoman. Google Glass doesn’t work with any hairstyle, nor with driving, yet Google does seem worth a small bet in our portfolio. With GOOG at $1,118.00 each, one doesn’t buy many shares.

To prove that she can step out of her Canadian comfort zone, she rounded out her tech splurge with Twitter, TWTR at $56.00 and Plug Power, PLUG at @ $2.77 then topped it off with the Canadian ETF, First Asset Tech Giants Covered Call, TXF, at $11.44 with a 7.8% dividend.

Madam X rotates her wrist to activate her Samsung Galaxy Gear. She has no need to time her jog as she jogs not, so has been experimenting with snapping photos. So far she has the back of an ear, a car roof and a couple of crotches –so hard to frame that perfect shot. She can’t seem to find a price for Samsung.

Diving for Deep Value

Two corporate outcasts have focused our interest:

Indigo, the giant book store that is becoming a gift store and is owned by one of Toronto‘s most powerful power couples is trading below liquidation value. Why, Madam X wonders. Is there a plot afoot or is this a buying opportunity?  Indigo IDG trades at $8.03 with a 5.4% dividend.

Automodular is somewhat out of the Madam’s range, “A guy stock,” she proclaims, yet we love a penny stock with a dividend.

This Ajax company is a sub assembler of modules, mainly for Ford. They do sequencing, transportation and logistics. Automodular comes with an oversized red flag because of the 14.2% dividend. AM trades at $2.39.

Madam X adores hearing financial scuttlebutt, amusing call symbols, and hot stock suggestions. For disclosure purposes, Miss X probably owns a few of the above mentioned stocks.
